Teach Us To Pray Download

This morning we are invited to….

“. . . approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16

Jesus’ disciples observed him praying, and at one point asked him to teach them to pray, at which he said, “When you pray, pray like this.” And what followed is what has become known as “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Let’s allow these famous words to lead us to the throne of grace in the next few moments, and may we indeed find the grace that is promised us to help in our time of need.

CONGREGATION:
Our Father, which art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.

“My name will be great among the nations, from the rising to the setting of the sun. In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to my name, because my name will be great among the nations,” says the LORD Almighty. Malachi 1:11

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised. Psalm 113:3

Your Name

As morning dawns and evening fades
You inspire songs of praise
That rise from earth to touch Your heart

And glorify Your Name
Your Name is a strong and mighty tower
Your Name is a shelter like no other
Your Name, let the nations sing it louder
‘Cause nothing has the power to save
But Your Name

Jesus in Your name we pray

Come and fill our hearts today
Lord, give us strength to live for You

And glorify Your name

CONGREGATION:
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

David Wells says that the essence of petitionary prayer is….

“…rebellion against the world in its fallenness, the absolute and undying refusal to accept as normal what is pervasively abnormal. It is . . . the absolute and undying refusal of every agenda, every scheme, every interpretation that is at odds with the norm as originally established by God.”

Wells further states that petitionary praying flourishes where we hold that . . .

“God’s name is hallowed too irregularly, his kingdom has come too little, and his will is done too infrequently. Secondly, God himself can change the situation. Petitionary prayer expresses the hope that life as we meet it, can be otherwise and, on the other hand, that it ought to be otherwise.”

Jesus Shall Reign (sung to the tune of “Before the Throne of God Above”)

Jesus shall reign where’er the sun
Does its successive journeys run,
His kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
Till moons shall wax and wane no more.
People and realms of every tongue
Dwell on his love with sweetest song,
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on his name.
Their early blessings on his name.

The saints shall flourish in his days,
Dressed in the robes of joy and praise;
Peace like a river from his throne,
Shall flow to nations yet unknown.
To him shall endless prayer be made,
And praises throng to crown his head.
His name like sweet perfume shall rise
With every morning sacrifice.
With every morning sacrifice.

Great God whose universal sway,
The known and unknown worlds obey,
Now give the kingdom to thy Son,
Extend his pow’r exalt his throne.
Let every creature rise and bring
A song to praise our gracious King,
Angels descend to join the strain,
And earth repeat the loud amen.
And earth repeat the loud amen.

CONGREGATION:

Give us this day our daily bread.

Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:25-34

CONGREGATION:
Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

His Mercy Is More

What love could remember no wrongs we have done
Omniscient all knowing he counts not their sum
Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore
Our sins they are many his mercy is more

What patience would wait as we constantly roam
What Father so tender is calling us home
He welcomes the weakest the vilest the poor
Our sins they are many his mercy is more

What riches of kindness he lavished on us
His blood was the payment his life was the cost
We stood 'neath a debt we could never afford
Our sins they are many his mercy is more

Praise the Lord his mercy is more
Stronger than darkness new every morn
Our sins they are many his mercy is more

CONGREGATION:
For Thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever.
Amen.

Our Father in heaven
Hallowed be Your name
Your kingdom come, Your will be done
On earth as in heaven

Give us today our daily bread
Forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us
Save us from the time of trial
And deliver us from evil

For the kingdom, the power
And the glory are Yours
Now and forever
Amen

The Mystery of the Faith

And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ's offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.

Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again!

I Will Wait For You (Psalm 130)

Lord, from the depths I call to you
Lord, hear me from on high
And give attention to my voice
When I for mercy cry

Out of the depths I cry to you
In darkest places I will call
Incline your ear to me anew
And hear my cry for mercy, Lord

Were you to count my sinful ways
How could I come before your throne
Yet full forgiveness meets my gaze
I stand redeemed by grace alone

I will wait for you
I will wait for you
On your word, I will rely
I will wait for you
Surely wait for you
Till my soul is satisfied

So put your hope in God alone
Take courage in his power to save
Completely and forever won
By Christ emerging from the grave

Now he has come to make a way
And God himself has paid the price
That all who trust in him today
Find healing in his sacrifice

I will wait for you
I will wait for you
Through the storm and through the night
I will wait for you
Surely wait for you
For your love is my delight

I pray my soul waits for the Lord
My hope is in his word
More than the watchman waits for dawn
My soul waits for the Lord

Benediction

May you continue to submit to the power and kingdom of God, giving God all the glory. May you understand that Jesus is the Word of God and may God continue to work good in all things, delivering us from the evil one. God in the peace of Christ. Amen!
